SZ: Mr. Kieling, with 16 they fled from the GDR, by swimming on the Czech-Austrian border by the Danube. Out of desperation over the political situation?

Andreas Kieling: I come from a desolate parent’s house, but it was less. I especially had a tremendous longing. Even as a small child I always wanted to be somewhere else, and I played for hours alone in the woods.
