the ROME – The humanitarian crisis in Idlib, Syria, is becoming defined more and more dramatic. Concerned about the humanitarian emergency for displaced persons, already exhausted from 9 years of violence, put over it all to the test by a winter of very hard, and inhuman living conditions. Since the conflict began in march 2011, one in two was forced, often more than once, to escape. Today – this is to be repeated often – that the syrian population is a refugee from larger on a global scale.
Generate solidarity between those who can contribute. To turn the spotlight on the terrible situation experienced by nearly a million displaced syrians, mostly women and children, trapped in the armed conflict underway in the area of Idlib, the UN Agency for Refugees (UNHCR) appealed to the 1700’s the italians who have a heritage of more than 100 million euros: “Consider a donation extraordinary for the dramatic escalation of the emergency in Syria”. The initiative aims, above all, to generate solidarity on the part of those who are able to contribute quickly with economic resources that will save lives in this emergency, which is now touching one of its peaks, the most dramatic and involving almost a million displaced people, mostly women and children, trapped in the armed conflict underway in the area of Idlib.
How to draw the border between life and death. “By the time we read in a note of the UNHCR -the philanthropists are important actors in all humanitarian crises and in contexts where the inflow of large resources in a short time puts the UN Agency for refugees, in a condition to respond to pressing needs on a large scale, making the difference between life and death for many”. Already exhausted from 9 years of violence and put to the test by a winter of very hard, thousands of family have nothing left. Emergency housing, food, blankets and medicines are the priority at the moment. Many people are traumatized and are forced to sleep in the open, seen that the fields have reached the maximum capacity. Infants and small children may not survive the cold temperatures.
“Today, we are discovering the value of mutual aid. “At this time, all, without exception, we are living in a complicated era, and of great concern to ourselves,” says Laura Iucci, director of the collection of funds for the UN Agency – but also for the health of our family members near and far. I think these are the moments that make us rediscover the importance of solidarity and mutual aid. On the eve of the ninth anniversary of the syrian conflict – aggiunhe Laura Iucci – thousands of infants and children the syrians are likely to die of cold and starvation. For this, we appeal to the Italian citizens who have the opportunity to donate considerable sums in quick time we can not forget the syrians for 9 years by the victims of a conflict so severe, we are facing a real race against time, where every second is precious to save lives”.
The first important results. Launched a few days ago, the appeal has up to now generated important and practical answers. But the needs remain high, the gap between real needs and available resources is widening inarrestabilmente pushing the syrians towards an abyss of extreme poverty.
