Lasse Pöysti was born in 1927. He broke through as a child actress in a popular film series about Suomisen Olli and his family. In the early 1950s, he started working at the Little Theatre in Helsinki, and continued at the same time as a movie actor, and also began directing.
He became known to a western audience, primarily in the role of Moomintroll in the tv series of the same name.

with his then-wife Birgitta Ulfsson over management of the Little Theatre up to 1974. In 1981, he became director of the royal dramatic theatre in Stockholm, and was there until 1985. Lasse Pöysti was during his career in more than 60 films and dozens of television programs. He worked with Ingmar Bergman, among other things, in tv-dramas ”The two blessed” and ”Hustruskolan”. He was awarded with the Finnish Jussipriset a total of seven times.
