The former prime minister wants to pull the alarm. If it is today a municipal councillor in Barcelona and provides “nothing” ask-in view of a potential realignment, Manuel Valls says to remain “attentive to what is happening in France”. And particularly the demonstrations against the discrimination taking place all over France since the beginning of June, in the lineage of those in the United States caused by the death of George Floyd. “The comparisons with the murder of a racist and vile George Floyd (the United States) are unacceptable because they are used to accusing France of being racist, to demonstrate a supposed racism of the State,” says Manuel Valls in an interview with Current Values for this Wednesday, June 17.
“Logic of victimization”
“The class struggle disappears in favor of the clash of the war between ‘races'”, considers even the former prime minister. “This war is terrible because it essentialise according to the color of skin. It aggregates, but it is also in competition with political islam. It is an explosive cocktail”, does he want to be alert to. The ex-candidate in the primary to the left of 2017 sees in these behaviors a “logic of victimization”, “enhanced thanks to the links between the movement former and a party of the left”. “The NPA, environmentalists, a fringe of France Insubordinate, the PC, or even a minority of the socialist Party”, he laments.
In France, the mobilization has crystallized around the death of Adama Traoré. This young black man of 24 years died after being arrested by the forces of the order in 2016 to Beaumont-sur-Oise (Val-d’oise). If Manuel Valls assured that his death is “a tragedy”, the former prime minister regrets that it is “manipulated by (his) sister, Assa, and the collective support”. “I established obviously a distinction between the organisers of (these) events and those who go there in good faith, who are outraged by racism, and want to report it. It is a global movement that is rather healthy,” he says. As to the “police violence”, denounced in the events, the former minister of the Interior response : “The police, like the gendarmerie, is deeply republican”.
Faure “appalled by the comments of Valls”
On RTL on Wednesday, the first secretary of the socialist Party, Olivier Faure, said he is “appalled by the comments of Manuel Valls”. “His thesis is usually worn by the extreme right. I know of only one race, that is the human race. The social question remains central. The yellow vests, the exacerbation of inequalities, everything is there for the recall”, he stressed. The former prime minister responded on Twitter : “The easiest way to Olivier Faure would be read to me instead of telling nonsense because, precisely, I put in question in my interview to Present Values a part of the left and the movement décoloniale who favor this reading dangerous confrontation between “races””.
