“Let’s get a move on”. Seventeen women in the Pd, writing to the minister of Italy living of the Family and Equal opportunities, Elena Bonetti to ask a “step-change”, “a series of concrete actions” to fight truly against violence against women. The letter, published by the Huffington post, carries the signatures of mps, senatrici and members of the party. And three representatives of the government: Anna Ascani, deputy minister of Public education; Lorenza Bonaccorsi, secretary of the Mibact; Francesca Puglisi, secretary of work and social policies.

Here’s what they write: “The daily news reports remind us every day how the theme of male violence is still dramatically all in front of us and ask for responses and interventions more effective. In the week that we left behind, we counted the killing of six women at different places of our land, by the hands of men who claimed to love them. Six in seven days. Gender-based violence is a cultural phenomenon rooted that needs to be addressed with determination, perseverance and commitment. First of all, reading it in the correct way, the violence for what it is: a culture of domination and possession and abuse of power exercised by a kind, one male, another female in the reason of a social model and family structured in time. In front of this, thinking only of the tools repressive and punitive damages is not enough”.

For women who have signed the letter, “it is necessary to work more on strengthening the network of protection, to invest more on specialization and training of the operators of the supply chain, to give new impetus and substance to the actions of prevention, support more and better services, anti-violence, and the networks of contrast, the projects of autonomy for women victims of violence, spread by the schools with the education for the respect of difference and gender identity. We know how the first years of life are crucial. We hope, therefore, a series of concrete actions that represent a step-change for a government and a country that is a friend of women. You Need a package of actions that implicate all and all for the construction of a society more just and equal”.
