Behind the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) by 2019 says the organizations Germanwatch, NewClimate Institute and the Climate Action Network.
They have made around 350 energy – and climate experts from around the world to assess the 56 countries and the EU as a whole. The ability of countries to respond to commitments made in the paris agreement are ranked in four categories:
• the Emissions of greenhouse gases (weighted with 40 per cent in the slutomdömet).
• the Share of renewable energy (20 per cent).
• Energy use (20 per cent).
• the Climate policy (20 per cent).
The first three places (with the assessment ”very good”) on the CCPI-the list is left empty, just like during all the 14 years that the ranking has been made. There is simply no country that has done enough to keep global warming below two degrees celsius, says Germanwatch.
On-site 4-17 (”good”) ports, 13 countries and the EU (as an average for all 28 member states).
Sweden its top spot from last year thanks to very high ranking in the single most important category, the emission of greenhouse gases. Even the Swedish climate policy is held high.
But, points out Germanwatch, if taken into account the LULUCF system how to calculate what the forests, fields and other land contributes in terms of both emissions and removals of greenhouse gases – reducing the country’s emissions to a much lower rate.
It also pointed out that, even if Sweden has set a goal to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045, criticize the experts, the lack of a clear strategy to reach there. Net-zero means that emissions are permitted if they are compensated.
Morocco and Lithuania on the CCPI-list.
the Lowest ranking, with underbetyget ”very bad”, is saudi Arabia, the US and Iran,
