the Regime has for the second day in succession, the closed down the country’s internet – and sms-communication in anticipation of the election results. According to Barnabe Kikaya bin Karubi, an adviser to the outgoing president, Joseph Kabila, it is a measure to maintain public order since the fake election results started to circulate in social media.

– It could lead us straight towards the chaos, ” says Barnabe Kikaya bin Karubi.

Even the popular Radio France Internationales signal is down, and the regime went on new year’s eve in the accreditation of the channel’s envoy journalist to have reported on the opposition’s election result data.

Representatives of the EU, the USA, Canada and Switzerland in Congo-Kinshasa-in a joint statement, called on the government to open the closed channels of communication.

”We ask that the government keeps blocking the communication channels, in particular access to the internet and the media”, they write.

Sunday’s election was held after two years of delays. If all goes as planned, it may be the first peaceful transition of power in the country in decades. Election day was marked, however, by allegations of fraud and unrest.

Both the opposition and the government claim that their candidates will prevail in the elections, whose final results are expected to be published first on 15 January.
