It was on Wednesday that fartygskapningen occurred on the Mediterranean sea. The migrants had been rescued from the sea off the Libyan coast of the Palauflaggade ship Elhiblu 1, but when they were told that they would be brought back to Libya, they should instead have hijacked lifeboats.
On Thursday raided the vessel by a maltese team which brought it to Malta’s capital where the suspected hijackers were arrested.
the Event is classified as terrorist offences under maltese law and can provide up to 30 years in prison. The three suspects teenagers comes from Guinea and Côte d’ivoire.
the Incident took place shortly after the EU’s decision to suspend rescue operations in the Mediterranean.
