One of last year’s trends within american hip hop, to release the minialbum with around twenty-three minutes of playing time, has found its way to Sweden: the first Z. E’s, ”know,” and now, Denz’s debut album. The last five years Denz released a long string of songs, such as sovereign ”Dash” with Jireel and Pato Pooh, so he was very much heated, in the face of this, the first longer and more ambitious works.
marks a change in the Swedish rap: now is dancehall, afrobeats and poppig reggaeton is an integral part of our country’s hiphopsound. I love this development, and Denz, with his cocky attitude and carefree melodikänsla fits perfect for these beats. However, he has one foot left in the more traditional, textfokuserade side of Swedish hip hop, which you can hear in the Mack Beats-produced ”the Times”.
