The american sportsudstyrs giant Nike has for years illegally controlled the sale of, among other things soccer jerseys from popular european clubs like FC Barcelona, Manchester United and Juventus.

It appears on Monday of a press release from the EUROPEAN Commission.

The Danish commissioner for competition, Margrethe Vestager, has awarded Nike a fine of 12.5 million euros – equivalent to 93 million kroner.

IN the EU context, there is talk about a small fine.

Nike has over 13 years – from 2004 to 2017 – illegal limited of certain distributors the opportunity to sell selected merchandise to other countries.

There is talk about ‘approved merchandise’, which does not bear the Nike logo, but instead the logo from, for example, a popular football club.

Nike has been licensed by the copyright holders to produce and distribute the merchandise. The american giant has prevented some countries in the EU’s internal market to sell the products.

’the Fans, are very often great price on products from their favourite team. It can be sweaters or scarves.’

‘Nike has prevented many of their dealers to sell the products in other countries, which has led to less choice and higher prices,’ says Margrethe Vestager in a press release.
