Science & Planet Neanderthals are often depicted as cavemen, with a slightly stooped posture. That picture, however, is incorrect, according to research from the University of Zurich. Our ancestors walked like modern people, in an upright position. The study appeared in the scientific journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
Researchers examined a well-preserved skeleton of a male neanderthal, who in 1908 was found in a cave in the French La Chapelle-aux-Saints. “La Chapelle-aux-Saints 1”, such as the found neanderthal has since been called, was forty years old when he died.

On the basis of a virtual reconstruction of the pelvis and the ruggenwervel of La Chapelle-aux-Saints 1”, scientists proposed that neanderthals, like modern humans, upright walking. From the anatomical model showed that the cavemen in general, a curvature in their pelvis and on their necks. There is, therefore, just as in our the existence of an S-shaped spine.
