It’s the result of a school competition, the name decreed for the next rover that Nasa will reach Mars. “Perseverance” is intended for the mission Mars 2020 and will, like its predecessor, Curiosity, search for traces of life on martian soil and send the data to be analyzed to study the Red Planet. To propose the name, certified by the u.s. space Agency, has been a student of Virginia to 12 years, Alexander Mather of Virginia, who won the “race” that has seen the participation of around 28 thousand students to name the vehicle.

“Alex and his classmates are the generation that will make the next steps in space that will lead a man on Mars,” said Thomas Zurbuchen , associate administrator of the Directorate of Scientific Missions of Nasa. “This stimulating work – he added – will always require perseverance. We can’t wait to see the type plate with that name on Mars”.
