The Danish løbestjerne Henrik Jørgensen died Saturday during a run on the island of Bornholm, at the age of 57 years.

But his inspiring being and performance as a runner will forever have an important place in the story.

It says the former Danish eliteløber Henrik Them, that is hosted on the løbepodcasten “Frontrunner”. He knew Henrik Jørgensen both as a person and runner.

– He was a very dedicated person. He had a great love for løbesporten and was a person who in many ways showed the way for the next generation.

– He has a big place in Danish atletikhistorie. I have always called him the king, as I have called his daughter, Anna, for “the king’s daughter”, says Henrik Them.

Henrik Jørgensen ran out to a large number of results. His career highlight came in 1988, when he won the prestigious marathons the London Marathon.

And the Danish runner with the characteristic headband, which kept the long locks from bothering, is remembered still in the English capital.

– His victory of the day was a huge triumph, ” says Henrik Them.

– I was even with in the London Marathon for four-five years ago. They knew very well, whom Henrik Jørgensen was, he says.

Last year was Henrik Jørgensen back in London to be honoured 30 years after his triumph.

– When he won, it was one of the largest marathons in the world. It still is. So it is one of the largest holdings, says Jim.

It was no coincidence that Henrik Jørgensen reached as far as he did.

Maratonstjernens træningsiver did often, that he ended up with a run of 230, 250 or 270 kilometers per week, points out Henrik Them.

– It is many hours in the shoes. The only reason he could handle it, was that he had so great a love for running.

– He has set the bar clean træningsmæssigt, and many others have tried to live it, says the former eliteløber.

Henrik Jørgensen is still the owner of the Danish record on maratondistancen. The sounds of 2 hours, 9 minutes and 43 seconds and was set 21. april 1985 – also in the London Marathon.

Although it is nearly 34 years ago, there is a unique run to challenge the legendary time.

– It should be a person who has the same talent as Henry. It might be difficult. And the person must be willing to work out just as much. For Henrik’s well enough trained much, says Henrik Them.
