Russell Okung — the very first NFL participant to find some of his salary paid in Bitcoin — responded Wednesday to the cryptocurrency’s dip over the previous two days.
Okung, who is a free agent offensive lineman, played with the Carolina Panthers at 2020. He had been among the greatest proponents of Bitcoin in the sports world.
He’s thought to be the first player from any important U.S. sports league to get a portion of his salary in Bitcoin.
This week, Bitcoin was one of the cryptocurrencies which saw a drop in value. The cryptocurrency dipped below $40,000 after the China Banking Association warned members of this risk involved with the volatile crypto market.
Okung vowed Wednesday he’d never give his Bitcoin.
“They laugh but will shout afterwards,” he tweeted.
“Y’all don’t get it. I am not promoting my #Bitcoin, actually,” he later added.
The two-time Pro Bowler was traded in the Los Angeles Chargers into the Panthers from the 2020 offseason. He played seven games for the Panthers at 2020 but just played 39% of snaps.
He wasn’t re-signed to a different contract and is still a free agent.
