“Tens of thousands of people disappear every year”

“Every year disappear thousands of people in Sweden. The vast majority are to be found – but annually remains around 30 people missing.”

“– There are those who are gone forever, ” says Anders Slightly, responsible for civil protection at the police.”

“Anders Slightly has worked with missing persons in over 20 years. He works mainly with the cases that become life saving sökinsatser and represents people with dementia, the elderly and suicidal persons, the largest proportion of those who disappear.”

“– Those who are depressed and lost by the reason is 25 per cent of our emergency response, ” he says.”

“Based on the statistics of those reported missing can be divided into different groups – those who are most likely victims of crime, they are presumed to have committed suicide, they are presumed to have gone astray, people who are without a trace missing asylum seekers who leaves Sweden without informing the authorities.”

“Last year was notified of 7 100 people missing in Sweden. A few years back in time it looks in a similar way, between 7 000 and more than 9 000 people reported missing per year in the last five years. The vast majority is found within six months, but an average of 30 people per year are found never. And it is often very difficult to manage for relatives.”

” It is hardly to put themselves into. They live in an incredible suspense. They don’t know at all if the relatives are alive or how the disappearance has gone to, ” says Anders Slightly.”

“the Important with the completion of the relatives’

“There are also those who keep themselves away voluntarily. Why they do it, it is only possible to speculate, ” says Anders Slightly.”

“– There can be youth who are in conflict with someone at home, it can be people who simply are tired of other people, they are somewhere, but you want to be for themselves. There are examples of people who had gone abroad for a longer period of time and suddenly popping up again, ” he says.”

“however, It is not so common among rescue and Anders Slightly myself have been with a few such cases during their 35 years as a police officer. Among other things, a young man who does not come home one day.”

“– He was feeling bad and had disappeared from the job. We had an idea where he could be, but it was a large area. After one and a half day he suddenly came back and didn’t tell us about where he had been or what he had done.”

“TT: How important is it for relatives to the missing person is found, alive or dead?”

“– It is extremely important. We work a lot for that loved ones to get a clearance. We have really no requirement on us to look for missing people who are dead, but it is done anyway for the family’s sake, ” says Anders Slightly.”

“the Missing asylum seekers are difficult to find.”

“About half of those who disappear and never be found is asylum seekers who travel to another country, or goes underground, often in connection with the appeal is refused. The cases are often difficult to investigate because it is likely that the person voluntarily stays away.”

“– The people are not lost in the truest sense of the word. It does not exclude that they may not have been the victim of a crime, but the disappearances have often had great bearing on a negative asylbesked, ” says Susanne Welander, national coordinator for the missing persons.”

“– Concerned administrators often get very little information initially in these cases they are not able to work further with them. For example, it may be due to the notifier, often appointed good men or the social services, do not have much information to give. It makes a large part of these cases is incredibly svårarbetade.”

“Those who disappear may be people with dementia, young people who run away from home or suicidal persons, and the reasons for it are many.”

“Based on the statistics of those reported missing can be divided into different groups – those who are most likely victims of crime, they are presumed to have committed suicide, they are presumed to have gone astray, people who are without a trace missing asylum seekers who leaves Sweden without informing the authorities.”
