On Monday, the charges were filed against the man who ran over Alejandro Valverde (and his friends) last Saturday in Alcantarilla on the road connecting the municipality with Javali Viejo. On Monday morning, the arrested man, who is a Murcian resident, appeared in court to give evidence before the Chief of the Investigating Court number 3.

Sources from the TSJ of Murcia state that the defendant must appear at the court hearing the case. In any case, the defendant must also appear on the 1st or 15th of every month. In the order, the magistrate states that although there are signs of possible road safety offenses, injuries, and abandonment at the accident scene, it is not clear that provisional detention would be justified if the defendant failed to meet the requirements (risk of escape, concealment, destruction or destruction of evidence, or prevent criminal repetition). As a precautionary measure, the judge also authorized the intervention of the vehicle that he was driving as well as the revocation of his driving licence.

The driver of the vehicle that intentionally rammed the Movistar team runners and his friends, was arrested on Saturday at the Murcia Local Police Station in La Alberca. He remained in Murcia’s National Police dungeons ever since.

The outrage was only a scare, however. Alejandro Valverde was not seriously injured when he was taken to the Virgende la Arrixaca hospital. After undergoing several tests, Alejandro Valverde was discharged from the hospital and is now back at home.
