Nigerian world champion and world record holder in the 100m hurdles Tobi Amusan has been provisionally suspended for three anti-doping whereabouts breaches, the U.S. Athletics Integrity (AIU). “Today the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) charged me with an alleged breach of the rules for missing three tests in 12 months,” the athlete herself first informed , before confirmation of his suspension by the IAU.
The IAU specified that the “disciplinary tribunal” will meet for this case “before the World Athletics Championships”, scheduled for August 19-28 in Budapest. “I intend to fight these charges and my case will be decided by a tribunal of three arbitrators before the start of the world championships next month,” the 26-year-old sportswoman said.
“I am a CLEAN ATHLETE and am regularly checked by the IAU (perhaps more than is usually done) – I was checked within days of my third missed check,” continued the Nigerian. “I have CONFIDENCE that this case will be resolved in my favor and that I will participate in the World Championships”, she still assured. Its representatives did not immediately respond to a request from AFP.
The athlete had broken the world record for the 100m hurdles in 12 sec 12/100th, last year at the Worlds in Eugene (Oregon, northwestern United States). She participated in the Silesia Diamond League in Poland on Sunday, where she set a new meeting record in 12 sec 34/100th. At the Golden Spike in the Czech Republic last month, she finished third, losing to the reigning Olympic champion, Puerto Rican Jasmine Camacho-Quinn who won in 12 sec 42/100e.
