The crisis is more acute than ever in Boulogne-Levallois. Laurent Foirest has been “relieved of his duties as head coach”, the Metropolitans 92 announced this Wednesday. Vice-champions of France, they are last in the championship this season with only one victory in 12 matches. The Mets are four successes behind the first non-relegation team, Roanne, who they will host this Sunday (2:30 p.m.).
The interim following the departure of Foirest will be handled by assistant coach Jean-Paul Besson, helped by the other assistant Nebojsa Bogava. Foirest, 50 years old and former back of the Blues (150 caps), arrived on the bench of Boulogne-Levallois this summer at the head of a completely recomposed and reduced workforce, after the departures in particular of the coach and still coach of the the French team Vincent Collet, as well as Victor Wembanyama and Bilal Coulibaly in the NBA.
While he had been placed on leave from his position as assistant coach of the Blues by joining the Mets 92, Foirest was dismissed after the fiasco of elimination in the first round of the World Cup at the end of August, where he did not was not. His profile was deemed too close to that of the other assistants by the general manager of the Blues Boris Diaw, looking for someone “with a different approach and experience”.
