The Baltics will finish first or second in Group L, depending on the result of the last Canada-Spain match, and face Slovenia or Germany in the quarter-finals. After having eliminated France, the reigning Olympic vice-champion and third in the 2019 World Cup, in the first round, and having offered the scalp of the Spanish defending champion on Friday (74-69), they took Brazil out of the competition, surprise winner of Canada in the previous match (69-65).
The Auriverde were left behind in the middle of the third quarter, handicapped by the fourth foul at the start of this period from their titular pivot Bruno Caboclo (20 pts and 7 rebounds).
They then conceded an 11-0 (25-27th) to find themselves trailing 71 to 57, before the Latvians pressed the accelerator again between the end of the third quarter and the start of the last (84- 63, 31st).
Particularly thanks to their long-distance skill: 2/3 for Andrejs Grazulis (24 pts), 4/4 for Arturs Kurucs (12 pts), 3/5 for Arturs Zagars (17 pts) and 4/9 for Davis Bertrans (14 pts).
