Self-proclaimed candidate for a world chance, French boxer Christian Mbilli scored a 25th victory in as many professional fights by dominating the American Demond Nicholson by KO on the night of Friday to Saturday in Gatineau, Canada.
Mbilli, considered one of the most promising French boxers, now has 21 knockouts to his credit and thus retains his two super middleweight titles, WBC-Continental of the Americas and WBA-International.
At 28 years old, Mbilli further asserts himself as a credible contender for a global chance, in a category dominated for several years by the Mexican Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
The referee stopped the fight in the middle of the fourth round when Nicholson collapsed in the corner after a left-right sequence from the Frenchman, who had already knocked his opponent down twice in each of the first two rounds.
The only Frenchman ranked by the four world federations (N.1 WBC, N.3 WBA, N.4 IBF, N.6 WBO before the fight), Mbilli continues after his spectacular victory against Ecuadorian left-hander Carlos Gongora on March 23.
For his part, Nicholson, 30, concedes his sixth defeat among professionals (for 26 victories, including 22 before the limit, and a draw). Mbilli could fight again on January 13, on the undercard of the clash between Canadian Artur Beterbiev and Briton Callum Smith. “Next”, simply launched the French on his social networks after his victory.
