Bayer Leverkusen won in Sinsheim against Hoffenheim (3-2) on Saturday afternoon, a ninth success which allows Xabi Alonso’s men to continue an almost perfect start to the season at the top of the Bundesliga after ten days.
With 28 points out of 30 possible on the clock, Bayer Leverkusen is five points ahead of Bayern Munich (23), who travel to Borussia Dortmund (21) on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., for the Klassiker of German football between its two behemoths.
Against the sixth in the German championship, Lukas Hradecky’s teammates opened the scoring through young German football talent Florian Wirtz, and doubled the lead through Alex Grimaldo just before the break (45th 1). In less than 120 seconds in the second half, Hoffenheim came back to score through Anton Stach (56th) and Wout Weghorst (58th), but Leverkusen reacted perfectly through Grimaldo in the 70th minute, on a new assist from Victor Boniface.
Behind Leverkusen and Bayern, RB Leipzig lost to poorly ranked Mainz (2-0) and missed a great opportunity to put pressure on the Munich team. With 20 points, Leipzig is already eight points behind the lead.
