The reigning world champion Remco Evenepoel is present in the Belgian selection for the World Cycling Championships which take place this summer in Glasgow (August 3-13), as are Wout van Aert and Jasper Philipsen.
Evenepoel, who won for the second consecutive year Liège-Bastogne-Liège in April, withdrew to everyone’s surprise from the Tour of Italy in May on the evening of the 9th stage after contracting Covid-19, and will participate after the Worlds at the Vuelta (August 26-September 17), where he will also defend his title. He will form a formidable trio of leaders for the road event with the current green jersey of the Tour de France, Jasper Philipsen, already winner of four stages, and the versatile Wout van Aert.
Van Aert and Evenepoel will also be in the time trial, an event in which the two men have finished on the podium several times (respectively two silver medals, and one silver medal and two bronze). The World Cycling Championships will take place in Glasgow and the rest of Scotland from August 3-13. The men’s road race will take place on August 6, on a 271.1 km course between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
