Ajax Amsterdam-Marseille 3-3Ajax Amsterdam: Borges (9th), Berghuis (20th), Taylor (52nd)Marseille: Clauss (23rd), Aubameyang (38th, 78th)

OM has character. Plunged into a huge crisis with the resignation of Marcelino and the withdrawal of the management team at the start of the week, the Marseille club began its Europa League campaign with a draw obtained on the pitch of Ajax Amsterdam (3- 3). Faced with an opponent who is also in poor shape (twelfth in the Dutch championship), the Marseillais found the resources to get out of a very bad situation.

OM reacts after a failed start

Exit Marcelino and his much-maligned 4-4-2. Appointed interim coach after the resignation of the Spanish technician, Jacques Abardonado opted for an expected 4-3-3. But the former defender saw his team take on water during a nightmarish start. Much too feverish behind, OM quickly gave in under opposing pressure. Mbemba let Borges open the scoring in complete peace (1-0, 9th), while Berghuis, strangely alone, took charge of doubling the lead from a corner (2-0, 20th). At the bottom of the abyss, the Marseillais nevertheless knew how to react immediately. Clauss launched the revolt by reducing the gap after a nice number (2-1, 23rd). Metamorphosed after the goal of the former Lensois, the Marseille club immediately took charge of the game. A start paid off with the break. Aubameyang, very clumsy until then (19th, 37th), managed to equalize with a low strike into the area (2-2, 38th).

Aubameyang sees double

If Ounahi missed a huge opportunity to give them the advantage just before returning to the locker room (45th 3), the Marseillais fell back into their faults from the restart. Once again messy and feverish behind, like Mbemba. Never calm, the Congolese defender was trapped for the umpteenth time on a cross from the untenable Borges, taken back victoriously by Taylor (3-2, 52nd). Led and mistreated, the Marseille club had to let the storm pass before regaining its senses. And a few moments after a saving save from Lopez against Bergwijn (67th), Aubameyang put OM back on track, by equalizing strongly (3-3, 72nd). The last highlight of a thrilling match which saw two sick teams go blow for blow. After this satisfactory entry into contention in C3, Marseille will return to Ligue 1 this Sunday, with a very perilous trip to PSG. Not the ideal program in the current context.
