Young Stade Rennais midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu, a native of Rennes where he was trained, has signed up with London club Chelsea, the Breton club announced on Tuesday. “Stade Rennais F.C. and Chelsea have reached an agreement for the transfer of 19-year-old Lesley Ugochukwu,” the club wrote in a statement. The transfer fee is estimated at 30 million euros.

“Fifth youngest player to evolve among the pros, at the age of 17, the native of Rennes played his first match with the first team on April 4, 2021 against Reims”, recalls Stade Rennais. He was established against PSG a few weeks later, with only a few minutes of play to his credit.

“In total, Lesley Ugochukwu, who arrived at the SRFC at the age of 8, played 60 professional matches under the colors of his training club”, recalls the press release. He went to school opposite Roazhon Park and literally grew up in the shadow of Stade Rennais. He could be loaned to Strasbourg, bought by the owners of Chelsea.
