“Before thinking about plan B, I want to exhaust all the possibilities of plan A,” said Mr Rodrigues, who has never hidden that Ancelotti, currently under contract with Real Madrid, was his first choice.

The decision on Ancelotti’s future must be taken at the end of his season with Real, which is out of the running in the Spanish league, but qualified for the semi-finals of the Champions League and the King’s Cup final.
