For the second time in his second five-year term, Emmanuel Macron will wear the Variétés Club de France jersey. The President of the Republic will participate in a charity match this Wednesday April 24 (5 p.m.) in Plaisir, in Yvelines. The meeting will take place for the benefit of the “Yellow Pieces” operation, whose Foundation is chaired by the president’s partner, Brigitte Macron.
According to Europe 1, the starting lineup for Variétés is already known. Five 1998 world champions are among them: Laurent Blanc, Marcel Desailly, Christian Karembeu, Robert Pirès and Didier Deschamps. The coach of the France team will even be aligned in midfield in a double pivot with Emmanuel Macron.
Former German goalkeeper Jens Lehmann will also be there, as will former Les Bleues left-back Laure Boulleau. Eden Hazard and Didier Drogba will lead the attack. Other distinguished guests will act as adversaries, such as former footballers Samuel Eto’o, Sony Anderson and Alain Giresse, MMA fighter Cyril Gane and Wilfrid Mbappé, father of Kylian. All arbitrated by Stéphanie Frappart.
Emmanuel Macron had already participated in a Variétés Club de France match in October 2021, against caregivers from the Poissy/Saint-Germain-en-Laye hospital center. He notably scored a goal from the penalty spot. In 2023, he mentioned his relative talent as a footballer by revealing an anecdote recounted by the Quotidien show on TMC.
“I made a demonstration at Sarcelles which is, I must read one of the biggest scams in the history of football,” Macron revealed, hilariously, on events taking place in April 2017, a few days before he is not elected President of the Republic. Macron converted a penalty in the middle of a crowd. “It’s a security officer who is not in the camera angle who adjusts it. And in the crowd, no one saw anything,” Macron explained. After the match, all these beautiful people will be received at the Elysée by the Head of State. Didier Deschamps, Marcel Desailly and the other players, but also Philippe Diallo, president of the FFF.
