Ilkay Gündogan, captain of Manchester City still in the hunt for a hat-trick, returns to Germany for the June friendlies after skipping the international window in March, coach Hansi Flick announced on Friday. Ilkay Gündogan is one of eight returning German players on the list, including Real Madrid defender Antonio Rüdiger, Dortmund midfielder Julian Brandt and Bayern striker Leroy Sané.

Due to the Champions League final on June 10 with Manchester City against Inter Milan, Gündogan and Robin Gosens will miss the start of the rally on June 7 and join the squad later. As announced at the end of February, Thomas Müller does not appear in the list, as well as Mario Götze, Serge Gnabry and Niklas Süle.

Host country of the next European Championship in the summer of 2024, Germany is exempt from the qualifying phase, and plays a dozen friendly matches. Germany will receive Ukraine in Bremen on June 12 for the 1,000th match in its history, then will move to Poland four days later, before receiving Colombia on June 20 in Gelsenkirchen. Hansi Flick’s experimental phase in March, with five novices on his list of 24, was not the most conclusive, with a success against Peru but above all a first loss against Belgium since September 1954, and since May 1910 against the Red Devils at home.
