For the 1,000th official match in its history, Germany snatched a draw against Ukraine (3-3) on Monday early evening in Bremen (northern Germany), without really reassuring itself at just one year of “his” Euro.

After opening the scoring by Niclas Füllkrug in the 6th minute of play, Germany yielded three times against the Ukrainian attack and goals from Victor Tsygankov (18th, 56th) and an own goal from Antonio Rüdiger , deflecting a shot from Mykhaylo Mudryk (23rd).

The reduction of the score in the last ten minutes by Kai Havertz (83rd) revived the suspense. The Chelsea striker provoked in the last minute the penalty converted by captain Joshua Kimmich (90th 1) which allowed Germany to avoid a first defeat against Ukraine in nine matches.

This draw comes less than three months after the loss against Belgium in Cologne (3-2), the first against the Red Devils since September 1954. In a year and two days (June 14, 2024), Germany will play the match opening of “his” European championship at home in Munich.
