The French boxing community mourns the disappearance of Wilfried Florentin, hope of his sport, at just 23 years old. According to the Parisian, the young heavyweight had been seriously injured by bullets during a brawl in front of the Unusual (in Bonneuil-sur-Marne), a tea room-lounge, at 8:30 am on Sunday. He had been transferred to the intercommunal hospital center of Créteil (Val-de-Marne) and had to be operated on but he died around 6:00 p.m. reveals the daily.
The circumstances of the incidents in front of the establishment where the shots were fired remain unclear for the moment. It could be a brawl involving several security guards, a police source told Le Parisien. In addition to his professional boxing career, Wilfried Florentin was a vigilante but it is not yet known if he was exercising his activity at the time of the events. A woman could be at the heart of the dispute that led to the tragedy. An investigation for intentional homicide was entrusted to the departmental service of the judicial police.
Wilfred Florentin, who succumbed to two bullets in the chest, was the father of two children. Nicknamed “Black Beast” (the black beast), he could not qualify for the Olympic Games in Tokyo, missing the dream appointment of all amateur boxers. Previously, he had brilliantly won the gold medal in 2019 at the European Youth Championships in the -91 kg category.
The team specifies that he was then at the heart of an incident, suspended for having hit a trainer while he was present at a boxing competition as a spectator. Setbacks that had pushed him to try his professional career in 2022, started brilliantly with three victories in as many fights, the last dating back a few days, on April 8 in Fontvieille.
