Teuraiterai Tupaia broke the French javelin record with a throw of 86.11 m on Friday in Fontainebleau, synonymous with qualification for the Paris Olympic Games this summer, announced the French Athletics Federation.

The 24-year-old athlete, originally from Tahiti, erases the mark of Pascal Lefèvre, whose throw of 82.56 m dates back to 1989. It was the oldest record in French athletics.
