Lyon coach Laurent Blanc admitted this Friday “to being under pressure like all coaches without results” but refuted the idea of having raised the subject of his communication with owner John Textor and of having undergone a reframing on his part.
“Am I under pressure? When a coach does not win, he is in danger and under pressure. This is the standard of our trade. Point. We live with the results and if there are none, we are under pressure”, he commented during a press conference.
“I had Mr. Textor in video, all alone with Vincent (Ponsot, general manager). We didn’t talk about that. I was not at this videoconference where there were journalists. We talked about recruitment and the possibilities of selling or buying, but no communication”, soberly specified the technician from Lyon.

Laurent Blanc “is he threatened? It’s pretty hard to say that. I would say yes and no. All coaches are always threatened because we need results. For us, it is not acceptable to end the season in the middle of the table. I have already said that the objective was the Champions League otherwise it would be a failure,” John Textor said on Tuesday.
“It’s not that he challenges me but he organizes his defense a bit. I asked him to stop playing these games with the media or telling jokes that ultimately cause controversy. This is the coach’s time to do his coaching job. I ask him to moderate his relationship with the press and to ensure that it is his work that speaks for him”, he pleaded, recalling that Laurent Blanc “had worked well last season”.
“We are looking for the solution today within our current management. Maybe one day we’ll look for her outside. It’s not me who brings up the possibility of firing him (Laurent Blanc) in the media. Me, I have very good relations with him, he is someone with whom it is easy to exchange. He takes his responsibilities to heart and his work seriously for the success we need. I actually think that the press is overplaying this challenge, ”the manager further underlined.
