While the LFP announced that it wanted to replace the rainbow prints on the backs of the players with two badges, one against racism and the other against homophobia, the justification displayed by Arnaud Rouger did not please to everybody. The director of the LFP affirmed before the National Assembly that “the message that we carry, for some, not for everyone, lacks clarity, and the border between fighting against homophobia and promoting ‘homosexuality is tenuous.’
Comments which caused controversy, and which were even castigated by Sandrine Rousseau. On her X account (formerly Twitter), the environmentalist MP took offense at this explanation: “These comments demonstrate assumed homophobia. There is no “promotion” of what cannot be promoted, just the right to be respected. She took the opportunity to call on the Minister of Sports, These unworthy comments should call for a clear reaction from the minister, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, to condemn “These unworthy comments should call for a clear reaction from the minister”. A position which further complicates the position of the LFP, which was confronted with the refusal of certain players to appear with a rainbow flocking in the last goal.
