A box to start. Ambitious for this new season, Stade Rennes easily won against Metz (5-1) this Sunday, at Roazhon Park, during the first day of Ligue 1. Goals from Kalimuendo, Gouiri, Doku and a double from Salah for the men of Bruno Genesio, against a realization of Maziz for the promoted messin, who equalized at 1-1 before taking the broth in Brittany.
Rennes did not waste their time. Facing a Metz team which, to their credit, had no intention of closing the game, the Bretons got four chances in the first ten minutes of the game. The right side, led by Doku and Bourigeaud, was very proactive, but Oukidja (6th, 9th) has, for a time, preserved the hopes of FC Metz. It took a good fifteen minutes to see the promoted set foot on the ball. But a few moments later, Arnaud Kalimuendo found the fault after an unfortunate save from Oukidja (1-0, 20th). 27 seconds later, George Mikautadze in the pass and Youssef Maziz at the conclusion made a shot from Trafalgar (1-1, 21st). The Messins doubted the men of Génésio who tried to follow up with Doku, but the surplus of soul was no longer there (1-1 MT).
When they returned from the locker room, the Rennais resumed their score from the start. On their first long phase of possession, Assignon sent an entry full of spontaneity towards Bourigeaud. The Breton captain only had to cut the center with a flat foot to deceive Oukidja (2-1, 51st). Amine Gouiri’s hip, who was hanging around, deflected the ball slightly – enough for the latter to be credited with the goal. 20 minutes later, it was Jérémy Doku’s turn to shine. The Belgian, who is rumored to be lusting after Manchester City, concluded a move he initiated (3-1, 68′). The winger recovered the ball at the feet of a defender, made the extra pass then pushed the ball into the net of the unfortunate Oukidja, yet author of an honorable match.
His 85th exit was followed by a standing ovation from Roazhon Park… as a farewell? His replacement, Amine Salah did not hesitate to score in turn … twice (5-1, 87th, 90 4). The striker was even inspired by his predecessor to plant his double: well placed, he only had to push the balls badly cleared by Oukidja into the goal (5-1 final score).
