OM coach Jean-Louis Gasset recalled on Sunday that his team’s victory against Lorient (3-1) now allowed it to “go 6th” in the event of success on Wednesday in a late match in Reims. “I congratulated them on winning. On Wednesday, we are the only ones playing among the candidates for Europe and we can move up to 6th,” said Gasset.

“Of course I believe in it before these two away games. But we know that we have only won two away games this season. We will have to find extra soul and physical freshness. We are lucky to have a growing squad and we now need everyone to play their role,” added the Marseille coach. “We have to recover well, it will come very quickly. The president said a word about the importance of Europe for OM. There we have to move up a gear outside,” he concluded.

Gasset also returned to the encouragement of the Marseille public, despite Thursday’s elimination in the Europa League semi-final against Atalanta Bergamo. “We had a lot to make up for. From the start, the crowd was behind us. I played 10 matches here and we were always full of emotion and magic. I was thrilled with every match,” he said.

“Well done to the supporters. They were disappointed and angry. Some players were a little apprehensive about the reception but I knew that they were not going to let us go,” added the Marseille coach.
