The Professional Football League pronounced on Wednesday “as a precaution” the “immediate and total closure of the François-Coty stadium” in Ajaccio, after the violent incidents which marred the match of the 3rd day of Ligue 2 against Bordeaux on Monday. “In view of the seriousness of the facts, the Disciplinary Committee of the LFP decides to put the file under investigation and pronounces, as a precaution, the immediate and total closure of the François Coty stadium”, writes the LFP in its press release.
The decision will be made at the end of the session on Wednesday September 6, at 6 p.m., during which the instructor will submit his report. As a result, the match that Ajaccio must play on September 2 at home against Dunkirk will take place behind closed doors, said the League.
After ten minutes of play, violence erupted in the stands on Monday when Ajaccio supporters attacked Girondin supporters who had made the trip despite the prefectural decree prohibiting them from entering the François-Coty stadium. In videos posted on social networks, we can see Ajaccio supporters throwing seats, a ladder and other elements of the stadium furniture at visitors, who were finally exfiltrated by the police.
These incidents resulted in six minor injuries among Bordeaux supporters, while two stewards were affected, according to the prefecture, which announced that administrative stadium ban measures would be taken against the respondents. A judicial inquiry has also been opened by the public prosecutor of Ajaccio to identify and prosecute the perpetrators of the violence. The match, which ended in a draw (0-0), had been interrupted for almost an hour because of the violence.
