A reconstruction of the evening of March 2022, during which former Argentine rugby player Federico Martin Aramburu was shot and killed in Paris, began on Wednesday evening in the Odéon district, noted an AFP journalist.
At the end of the day, numerous police vans secured Boulevard Saint-Germain, in the 6th arrondissement. Access to rue de Buci and the Mabillon restaurant were closed to the public.
On March 19, 2022, the ex-Puma, who was in the company of a friend, also a former rugby player, Sean Hegarty, to see a match in a bar, was shot dead in the street, after a first altercation that occurred in the establishment.
The two main suspects are two activists anchored to the extreme right: Romain Bouvier and Loïk Le Priol, a former soldier and activist of the ultra-right movement Groupe Union Défense (GUD), who fled to Hungary after the events before being arrested. They were indicted in particular for “assassination” and have been in pre-trial detention since.
One of the suspects arrived on the scene around 8:00 p.m., wearing a helmet and surrounded by numerous police officers. The lawyers for the defendants and the civil parties, Mr. Hegarty as well as the magistrates responsible for this case were also present.
“There will be a search for shooting distances, angles, and therefore a comparison of the statements of those indicted with a scientific reality thanks to the presence of experts,” Shaun Hegarty’s lawyer explained to AFP, civil party, Me Christophe Cariou-Martin.
According to him, “this reconstruction will ultimately rule out any theory other than that of intentional homicide committed with premeditation.”
According to several sources close to the matter, MM. Bouvier and Le Priol had collector’s weapons, category D, with them, with which they fired.
“These weapons are sold at gunsmiths, in flea markets, on internet merchant sites,” laments Me Cariou-Martin.
A woman then aged 24, Lyson R., close to Loïk Le Priol, was also indicted for “complicity in murder”. She was released from pre-trial detention.
She is suspected of having driven a vehicle belonging to Mr. Le Priol on the evening of the events. A jeep was parked in front of the restaurant for the reenactment.
Their respective lawyers did not wish to speak on Wednesday.
A fourth person is also indicted, a man suspected of having helped Romain Bouvier in his escape.
Federico Martin Aramburu, former center or winger for Biarritz (2004-2006), Perpignan (2006-2008) or Dax (2008-2010), had 22 caps with Argentina. Since his retirement from sports, he lived in Biarritz and worked in tourism.
