After Hugues Obry in the men’s foil team, it is the turn of Alain Coicaud to resign from his position as national coach and manager of the French men’s saber team.

The French Fencing Federation announced this new symptom of the conflicts which plague the discipline via a press release. She “takes note of the resignation of Alain Coicaud. (…) The conditions were no longer met for the final work of preparing the Olympic Games to take place with the required serenity.”

“To replace him in his functions, the national director Jean-Yves Robin today appointed Julien Médard, until then his deputy. He takes the reins of the team with the ambition of restoring the unity of the France group, when approaching the deadlines which are the European Championships and, of course, the Paris Olympics.

And to hope, in conclusion of his press release: “After several months of upheavals, the French fencing team as a whole is now in battle order to conquer the podiums and titles. Recent results during the various stages of the World Cup in all weapons show that the best can be hoped for in the coming summer.”
