After one of the worst seasons in the club’s history in the Premier League, the owners of Chelsea have promised to “do better” next year, in an open letter published Thursday on the Blues website. “Clearly, as far as our men’s team is concerned, it has been a disappointing season and there are many things that we can and will do better”, can we read in a text signed by the “ group of owners of Chelsea” which mainly includes the American businessman Todd Boehly and the investment fund Clearlake Capital.

Despite nearly 600 million euros spent during the last two transfer windows, the Blues only finished 12th, their worst ranking since 1994, and they sacked Thomas Tuchel and then his successor Graham Potter during the season, to end the season with Frank Lampard in interim. They have since announced that Argentinian Mauricio Pochettino will be the coach next season.

“Despite all the difficulties of the past year, we are optimistic for the future”, write the owners again. “We are building a structure of observation, identification of talent and recruitment (…) which will help us transform the workforce around elite talent, (to form) a team capable of continuously chasing the Premier League title, lifting national cups and winning at the highest European level.

They also highlighted the good season of the women’s team, champions for the fourth consecutive year and winners of the FA Cup for the third time in a row, despite the failure in the semi-finals of the Champions League against Barcelona , which was then crowned by beating Wolfsburg (3-2) in the final.

“We cannot say enough positive things about Emma Hayes (the coach of the women’s team), her staff and the group who have coped with adversity, injuries and the absence of Emma” for a month and a half after surgery. “Their personality and their thirst for victories have no equal,” they underlined.
