The “Blues” are eighth, just three points from sixth place, currently held by Manchester United (6th, 54 pts), which allows them to compete at least in the Europa Conference League next season. Conversely, the third defeat in three consecutive matches almost buries the Champions League hopes for Tottenham (5th, 60 pts), dropped seven points behind Aston Villa (4th, 67 pts).

The “Spurs” certainly have one more match to play, on May 14, but it will be against a Manchester City team determined to win a fourth league title in a row. Ange Postecoglou’s team, fairly harmless on Thursday at Stamford Bridge, was weighed down by its two current weak points: away matches and defensive kicks.

Conor Gallagher first placed a free kick at the far post for the head of Trevoh Chalobah (24th, 1-0), central defender started in the absence of Thiago Silva and Axel Disasi, injured, and scorer for the first time since March 2022 in the championship. Chelsea made the break in the second half after a free kick from Cole Palmer pushed back by the crossbar, but headed by Nicolas Jackson (72nd, 2-0), quicker than the defense.

The west London team put behind them three matches without a win in all competitions, including two in the league (5-0 defeat against Arsenal and 2-2 against Aston Villa). By the end of the season, she will return to Stamford Bridge, against West Ham and Bournemouth, and will make two trips to Nottingham Forest and Brighton, on May 15, for her last late match. Tottenham travels to Liverpool on Sunday, before hosting Burnley and Manchester City, then going to Sheffield United, already relegated.
