Defending champion Manchester City won with difficulty at promoted Sheffield (2-1) on Sunday, with a late goal from Rodri which guaranteed him to take the lead in the Premier League alone at the end of the 3rd day.
The Bramall Lane crowd witnessed a thrilling and stunning end to the match. Incoming Jayden Bogle brought Sheffield up to City in the 85th minute (1-1) but Rodri restored the advantage to the European champions three minutes later (88th, 2-1).
The Mancunians largely dominated the game but lacked efficiency for a long time, like Erling Haaland who missed a penalty (37th), a first for him in the Premier League. The Norwegian, however, opened the scoring with a header (63rd, 1-0).
After the missteps of Brighton (3-1 defeat against West Ham) and Arsenal (2-2 against Fulham), alongside them on the podium before the weekend, the Citizens seize first place alone with nine points, two more than West Ham, Tottenham and Arsenal.
They cannot be joined by Newcastle and Liverpool, opposed Sunday (5:30 p.m.) at St James’ Park.
