Sky Sports confirmed the incident. “Police are investigating an alleged attack by a member of the public preceding the images which circulated on social networks,” informs the television channel. A witness, interviewed by the Daily Express, claims to have seen the fan try to headbutt Roy Keane. “I then saw a mark between his eyebrows,” he says, adding that Micah Richards, ex-England international, intervened to protect his colleague.

This same witness says he “noticed blood on the ground on the way out of the public”. The police have confirmed the opening of an investigation, stressing that “no arrests” have taken place.
