Time to hang up the cleats. In an interview with Midi Olympique, Alexandre Flanquart announced that he will end his career as a professional rugby player at the end of the season. The former international second line (2.04 m for 102 kg), revealed at the Stade Français Paris (2009-2019) and French champion in 2015, then went through Union Bordeaux-Bègles (2019-2021) before to engage with Provence Rugby in Pro D2. He only has one match left to play this season with the club based in Aix-en-Provence, Friday (7:30 p.m.), against Aurillac.
“It has come the time to stop rugby. As we approach this last match, I feel as usual… (Laughs) I’m more eager to quit than anything else, he confides. The two years at Provence Rugby were a bonus. I already had in mind the fact of stopping after Bordeaux. I want to move on, and move forward in my other life.”
Alexandre Flanquart explains that he has “lots of projects in mind. I’ve been thinking about what’s next for a while now: “I let myself be tempted by Provence Rugby to end up with another objective: transmission. This aspect pushed me in this last beautiful challenge. Now you have to know how to say stop.” Provence is, before the last day of Pro D2, seventh in the standings (64 points), but cannot qualify for the final stages with 12 points behind Vannes (6th).
And the former international with 22 caps between 2013 and 2016 added: “My body would allow me to continue even if there are sores. It’s not easy to go to training every day. Basically, it’s more in the head. I want to have another balance and enjoy with my family. I want to have weekends, two weeks of vacation (laughs). It plays a lot. »
