Jonathan Sexton, Conor Murray and their team-mates will meet on June 18 in Dublin ahead of their three warm-up matches against Italy, England and Samoa in August. Munster winger Calvin Nash, Leinster full-backs Ciaran Frawley and Jamie Osborne and Ulster hooker Tom Stewart have been retained from the 42 despite not yet having a selection.
On the other hand, Leinster full-back Jordan Larmour and Munster fly-half Joey Carbery were not selected for this first training camp. The XV of Clover, author of the Grand Slam at the Six Nations tournament this season, is one of the favorites for victory in the World Cup (September 8 – October 28) even if it has never exceeded the quarter-finals in his history.
The team, ranked number one in the world ahead of France and New Zealand, will start the tournament against Romania in Bordeaux on September 9. They will then face Tonga, defending champion South Africa and Scotland in the group stage. A training camp in Portugal is also planned for August before Farrell, the father of England star Owen Farrell, confirms his squad of 33 players for the World Cup.
