A bitter third place for Clément Noël. The Frenchman, in the lead after a magnificent first round, had to settle for third place in the Chamonix slalom this Sunday. Noël, fourth in the specialty World Cup before this weekend and who has not yet won a single race this season, may harbor regrets.
Today’s performance is to the credit of the Swiss Daniel Yule, 30th in the first round and who won ahead of his compatriot Loic Meillard (0”16) and Clément Noel (0”18). It has never happened in the history of skiing that such a rise has occurred.
Thirtieth and last qualifier – narrowly – after a failed first round, Daniel Yule took advantage of the good track conditions at the start of the second round, and was never caught by his competitors. This is the first time in the history of the Ski World Cup that a slalom rider 30th in the first round has won the race. In the end, Yule is ahead of his Swiss compatriot Loic Meillard (16 hundredths) and Clément Noël (18 hundredths).
The Chamonix slalom was the only race on the weekend’s program since the two descents planned for Friday and Saturday were canceled due to the strong mild weather, making it impossible to hold a descent in good conditions. The women, who were scheduled to ski in Garmisch, Germany, were also barred from competing for the same reasons. The men’s Alpine Skiing World Cup continues Saturday in Bankso, Bulgaria, where a giant and a slalom are on the program.
