Novak Djokovic occupies the head of the ATP rankings for the 417th week, published on Monday, ahead of Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, crowned on Sunday in Indian Wells, California. Cumulatively, this represents for the Serbian a domination for eight full years of the world tennis hierarchy, a feat only achieved by the 36-year-old player.
His rivals, the Swiss Roger Federer and the Spaniard Rafael Nadal, respectively spent 310 and 209 weeks as No.1 at the ATP. Djokovic is also ahead of the American Pete Sampras (286), the Czech Ivan Lendl (270) and the American Jimmy Connors (268). Winner in the final in Indian Wells against the Russian Daniil Medvedev, 4th player in the world, his 20-year-old Spanish runner-up preserved his second place in the rankings by retaining his title in the prestigious Californian tournament, thanks in particular to a victory in the semi-final over the 3rd in the world, the Italian Janik Sinner.
Humbert and Mannarino in the top 20
With Djokovic’s announced withdrawal from the Masters 1000 in Miami which begins on Friday, Alcaraz has the opportunity to get closer to the Serbian in the event of success in the Florida tournament. He was eliminated there last year by Sinner in the semi-final. The German Alexander Zverev stole sixth place from the Russian Andrey Rublev. The Norwegian Casper Ruud, new 8th, did the same at the expense of the Pole Hubert Hurkacz. This is also the case for Bulgarian Gregor Dimitrov, who took 12th place previously occupied by American Taylor Fritz. Up two places, Kazakh Alexander Bublik, 18th, obtains the best ranking of his career at 26 years old.
On the French side, Ugo Humbert lost a rank and fell to 15th place. Conversely, Adrian Mannarino (1) returns to the Top 20. Arthur Fils gains six places to settle at 37th in the world. Gaël Monfils progressed seven places. Thanks to a gain of three positions, Arthur Cazaux, 21, obtains the best ranking of his career, at 74th place in the world. Bringing up the rear of the 10 French players present in the Top 100, Constant Lestienne (7) is 93rd.
