The French Adrian Mannarino and Ugo Humbert successfully entered the competition by advancing to the third round of the Masters 1000 in Indian Wells (California, United States) on Saturday.
As seeded, Mannarino (21st player in the world) and Humbert (14th) entered directly into the second round of the competition. Mannarino easily dominated the Czech Tomas Machac in two sets (6-1, 6-2) and will meet in the next round either his compatriot Alexandre Müller or the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, who will face each other later in the day.
Ugo Humbert, on the momentum of his victory at the ATP 500 in Dubai last week, was not flamboyant but solid enough in the important moments to defeat the American Patrick Kypson (6-4, 6- 4). He will face another local on Monday, either Tommy Paul or Alex Michelsen.
Océane Dodin was eliminated by Russian Daria Kasatkina (12th in the world) in two sets (6-3, 7-6). Arthur Fils dominated the Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich in two sets (6-3, 6-4) and will meet in the next round either the Norwegian Casper Ruud or the Slovak Lukas Klein.
