The Dane Holger Rune, 12th player in the world, qualified for the semi-finals of the ATP 250 tournament in Munich by dominating the Swiss Marc-Andrea Hüssler in the quarter-finals on Friday, while the German Alexander Zverev lost against the Chilean Christian Garin. For a place in his third final on Munich clay, Rune will face either the German Jan-Lennard Struff or the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime in the semi-final on Saturday. The match was interrupted in the evening with a set and a break in favor of Struff (7-5, 3-1).

In the cold (3 to 4 degrees), the wind (gusts at times) and in the rain, winter conditions which have disrupted the tournament since Tuesday, Rune only needed two sets to overcome Marc-Andrea Hüssler , bending the match to the tie-break of the second set (6-4, 7-6 (7/3)). In three appearances at the Munich tournament, Rune has only lost one set, last year in the final against the Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp. He signed his 11th victory in as many matches in Bavaria on Friday.

If the cold conditions do not seem to bother Rune, Alexander Zverev experienced much more difficulty, beaten by Christian Garin, modest 106th in the world, in two sets (6-4, 6-4). Zverev had not lost against a player beyond the top 100 since the Australian Open in January 2023 (the American Michael Mmoh, 107th in the world, in the 2nd round). In the semi-final, Garin, a clay court specialist, will face the American Taylor Fritz (15th in the world), who had to fight until the tie-break of the third set to get rid of the British Jack Draper (4-6, 6- 3, 7-6 (7/1)).
