Russian Liudmila Samsonova, 18th in the world, eliminated Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka (N.2) in three sets and qualified for the quarter-finals of the Montreal tournament on Friday. Samsonova, seeded N.15, won 7-6 (7/2), 4-6, 6-3 against the seeded N.2, winner of the last Australian Open.
