Australian scrum-half Jake Gordon will strengthen RC Toulon as a joker for the duration of the Rugby World Cup, the Var club announced on Thursday.
Aged 30, Gordon has 20 selections for the national team, but was not selected for the upcoming World Cup in France (September 8 – October 28).
Gordon, who played with the Waratahs, will be “World Cup joker” to replace Baptiste Serin, mobilized by the staff of the XV of France in preparation for the World Cup.
“Jake is a scrum-half experienced in international games,” commented RCT manager Pierre Mignoni, quoted in the club press release. “He will bring us his leadership, his game vision and his physical qualities.”
According to the sports news site Roar, another Wallaby, Noah Lolesio, opener capable of helping out in the center, could also commit for a short time with Toulon, which has already secured the temporary reinforcement of the former Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones.
Toulon will start their Top 14 season on August 19 in Lyon. After three days, the French championship will be put on hold for the World Cup and will not resume until the end of October.
