The president of the Rugby Club Toulonnais gave a long interview to Le Figaro. Bernard Lemaître presents his projects and his vision for the Var club and discusses his succession. He also focuses on the behavior of certain players, recently singled out.

“I understand that we are asking questions about the players’ lifestyle. There is no laxity at the RCT but, as in all Top 14 clubs – I mean all -, there are players who more or less respect the rules on alcohol and cigarettes. It turns out that, on the five and a half hectares of the Campus, there is a place where certain players met to smoke in secret, like children. Only French people from elsewhere, as if by chance… Pierre (Mignoni) therefore stormed out and sent this message to indicate that we were aware and that we were going to close this place. The term smoking room was exploited on social media but it was just a derogatory term.”

Bernard Lemaître also speaks, without taking any gloves, on the disappointment of Waisea Nayacalevu. “It’s a real sporting disappointment. He did not have the same performance, nor the same state of mind, as at Stade Français. I am happy for him that he can go to England but, indeed, we will not regret him as a player.
